Tap began by pointing out that, for the first time in one hundred years, the rate of urban population growth is outpacing that of suburban areas, and America’s global competitiveness is now more centered around urban areas and the amenities and opportunities they offer. “Urbanization will contribute to sustainable growth in the U.S. by increasing productivity and allowing innovations and new ideas to emerge.”
